AP Racing enters 13th consecutive BTCC season as an integral technical partner

AP Racing, the world-renowned brake and clutch supplier, is celebrating its 13th consecutive season as an integral technical partner of TOCA and the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). This season marks an important, sustainable evolution in the history of the BTCC, with the introduction of hybrid powertrain for all racecars.

Alongside their new BTCC Hybrid System, all the race teams of the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship will each be using a number of high-performance motorsport parts developed and manufactured by AP Racing.

In a continuation of the six-year agreement between AP Racing and TOCA, AP Racing will supply all racecars on the BTCC grid with innovative Gen 2 Radi-CAL™ calipers, brake discs, master cylinders, slave cylinders, pedal boxes, air jacks and high-performance carbon clutches.

The AP Racing brakes will be critical for safety and lap times in 2022, with the hybrid system providing the drivers with additional power for a maximum of 15 seconds per lap.

This season will feature fifteen manufacturer/constructor and fourteen independent entries, kicking off with three races at Donington Park on 23-24 April. This will be followed by nine more race weekends at Brands Hatch, Thruxton Circuit, Oulton Park, Croft Circuit, Knockhill Racing Circuit, Snetterton Motor Racing Circuit, Thruxton Circuit again, Silverstone Circuit and the final round returning to Brands Hatch on 8-9 October.

2022 marks the 65th BTCC season and its 12th season under the Next Generation Touring Car (NGTC) regulations. TOCA, the organisation behind the BTCC, has been a long-time supporter of the well-established British motorsport supply chain. The relationship between AP Racing and BTCC goes back to 2002, when the company was selected as the single source of the competition's brake and clutch components.

David Hamblin, Managing Director at AP Racing, commented: “Twenty years after our first involvement with the BTCC, we are thrilled to be part of this bold new era. Not only does hybridisation bring a new experience for drivers and spectators in its deployment, but it also offers new technical challenges. As a cornerstone of British motorsport, it is wonderful to see the pursuit of sustainable racing technologies in the BTCC. We are excited to see how the cars perform this year and the long-term evolution of this iconic and beloved series.”

Peter Riches, Technical Director at TOCA, added: “We are a strong believer in the ingenuity and quality of the UK motorsport industry – particularly companies like AP Racing. As a long-time technical partner, AP Racing has brought countless brake and clutch innovations to the BTCC and, indeed, the wider world of motorsport. At the dawn of this new hybrid era for BTCC, it is fantastic to see AP Racing continue to play a critical role in vehicle performance and we are thrilled to have them involved through to 2026.”
